The arrival of Hans Petter Dahl and Maarten Seghers at Needcompany has meant that the production and performance of our own music has become an art form in its own right that is explored and practised every day independently of the productions.

As composers and performers, Hans Petter Dahl and Maarten Seghers have been collaborating on Jan Lauwers’ stage productions since Images of Affection (2002). With additional musical contributions by Jan Lauwers and words by Lauwers and Anneke Bonnema, Hans Petter Dahl and Maarten Seghers have written original music for several productions and a lot of one-off performances. The results of their cooperation are to be found on the CDs Isabella’s Remix and SAD FACE | HAPPY FACE. Needcompany and MER. Paper Kunsthalle issued the CD called Marketplace 76 with songs and music from this show by Jan Lauwers. The composers Rombout Willems, Maarten Seghers and Hans Petter Dahl wrote the music for summer, autumn and winter respectively.

Maarten Seghers makes his own music, performances and visual work with OHNO COOPERATION, a Needcompany splinter group. Maarten has also written music for dance productions by Grace Ellen Barkey, which resulted in the EP Tracks to the world of Grace Ellen Barkey.

Hans Petter Dahl creates his own work for the stage with Anna Sophia Bonnema under the name MaisonDahlBonnema. The Ballad of Ricky and Ronny – a Pop Opera (2007) together with Ricky and Ronny and Hundred Stars – a Sado Country Opera (2010) and Analysis - the Whole Song (2011) are three performances in a trilogy on contemporary opera, Tokyo, Paris, New York – a Pop Opera Trilogy.

Rombout Willems has written music both for stage productions by Jan Lauwers and Grace Ellen Barkey, and for Needcompany film projects.

For the music for its film and stage work, Needcompany has also collaborated with Walter Hus, Doachim Man and Senjan Jansen.
